Rejoicing while suffering?

Book: 1 Peter

Scripture: 1 Peter 1:7-12

This week at Refresh Monday, we learned real faith produces real change. But could faith do the unimaginable? Rejoicing while suffering?

Peter thought so. Okay, he knew so. When he was beaten, Luke records him rejoicing worthy to suffer for the Lord’s name.

This past Sunday at CityLight Church, Brad Williams preached an excellent sermon on rejoicing while suffering. The big idea was this:

Suffering comes before glory.

At CityLight, we learned three reasons to rejoice while suffering.

1. The Genuineness of Your Faith (7a)

Suffering will break you, but it cannot break your faith. We have an inheritance that is kept safe. It is imperishable, undefiled, and invading. Not amount of suffering can keep us from the love of God.

2. The Glory of God (7b-8)

Our eye is on the prize. Suffering always comes before Glory. To borrow the words of the Apostle Paul, “For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, ” 2 Corinthians 4:17

3. The Greatness of Your Salvation (9-12)

The salvation we have in Christ is so great, so majestic that angels look into it with awe and wonder. We have been saved. We are being saved, and praise God we will one day be saved.

If you have the time, I would highly encourage you to watch this excellent message.
